A plan from JCD Group for a trio of residential towers up to 25 stories tall, restored heritage buildings and a new public plaza is sparking excitement in Cork, Ireland, as it promises to address a rental-housing shortage and contribute to Cork’s continued transformation into a “modern European city,” Business Cork reports. JCD’s application to revitalize an area along Albert Street fronting Albert Quay was formally lodged on November 6. It involves archiects Henry J. Lyons, London-based Urban Initiatives Studio, conservation specialist JCA and tall-building expert Richard Coleman of City Designer. A pair of nine- and 12-story towers and a landmark, 25-story tower would include 201 residences. The former Sextant bar and restaurant would be relocated to the protected Ticketing Office and Railway Terminus Building. The development would sustain approximately 200 construction jobs in the docklands area and entail “significant investment in protected, historic structures.”
